Wind Energy

Investigating Wind Energy is a four-part lesson that can be done during a one-week period or a four week period. Or you can choose different components that are applicable to your curriculum.  What is Wind?  provides a nice introduction to why there is wind on earth and the energy it possesses. The Old Windbag is a fun activity that has cross-curricular ties with language arts.  The activity is a preparation for further investigation. Building the Best Windmill is an excellent activity using K-Nex to make a mechanical working windmill.  Windmills at Work uses the windbag and the windmill to teach kids how energy is transferred from one thing to the next.  All or part of this lesson can be used to teach students about renewable energy and sustainable living.  What is Wind? and Building the Best Windmill can be used together to teach students about weather.
