Retail Stores Think Ahead by Precycling
 |
Precycling is preventing waste before it happens. Adopt these precycling ideas to reduce waste.
|
- Give your customers paper bags made from recycled content paper.
- Don’t stock plastic bags – they clutter up the landfill and waste scarce oil resources.
- Ask your customers if they would like a bag, or would like to use a bag they already have.
- Ask your customers if you can recycle their packaging – boxes, tissue, shirt inserts, tags -- Tourists love it – less to pack for the flight home.
- Work with your suppliers to reduce packaging. Write to them if your goods arrive with too much packaging that you must throw away.
- Consider going “paperless.” Use electronic banking, credit cards, and filing.
Recycling is the best way to protect the environment. Recycle your cardboard:
- Bring cardboard to Recycle Utah for FREE.
- Buy a baler with your neighbors.
- Use the cardboard compactor on Swede Alley opposite the Transit Center.
- In the fall when gearing up for the tourist season, coop with your neighborhood retailers and to dispose of cardboard daily.
