Ice Cube Race, Solar Matters II is a simple hands-on activity can be used alone or as an introduction to topics such as energy transfer, heat transfer, solar energy, global warming, global melting or the water cycle. The Students race to melt an ice block using sources of heat available in the classroom; the sun, their bodies, the heat register etc. They will identify variables, collect and organize data and interpret the data. They will also understand the variety of tools used to measure the gain or loss of energy. You can extend this experiment in a variety of ways, enriching research and graphing skills.
