The Warehouse is Summit County's only construction thrift store and the first of its kind in Utah.
In 2000, Summit County buried 18,114 tons of wood waste at the Henefer Landfill, consisting of primarily virgin pieces of solid sawn and engineered wood.
In 2001, Summit County landfilled 44,000 tons, almost 2.5 times as much or an increase of 143 percent! Most of the wood coming from building projects can be reused or recycled in one way or another.
To address this problem, Recycle Utah started the “Good Wood Project,” now called The Warehouse. Currently, donors and patrons prevent 25 truckloads per month from going to the Henefer landfill.
Goals of the Warehouse:
Develop partnerships with local contractors to obtain "good" wood at new construction sites.
Capture other building materials such as doors, windows, and fixtures from remodel projects.
Provide a community thrift store for the sale of wood and other desirable materials.
Promote efficient use of wood and household resources.
Extend the life of the Henefer Landfill which accepts C & D waste.
Work with Summit County to create an integrated solid waste management plan.
