Don’t be a Litter Bug

Plastic bags and cigarette butts. The two most littered items in the world, and neither are biodegradable.

According to the Ocean Conservancy the single most collected item on the world’s beaches is cigarette butts. In 32 years they picked up over 60 million butts, about one-third of all collected waste. Sometimes that trash comes directly from beaches, but more often than not it washes into oceans from storm drains streams and rivers from hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away.

Globally we use a trillion plastic bags a year, according to Plastic Waste Coalition. That is approximately 10 million every 5 minutes! These bags easily fly out of garbage trucks and recycling bins and litter road ways. Plastic does not biodegrade and easily enters waterways and is mistaken for food by wildlife. You can help decrease the chance of plastic bags ending up on the streets, by bringing your reusable bag with you everywhere you go and cutting out the plastic waste created by your home.

Help us keep Park City a town that we can all be proud of. Pick up extra trash when you see it laying on the streets or the trails and encourage your friends to responsibly dispose of all items.
