Cardboard is collected in the cardboard compactor. All packing materials must be removed and boxes must be broken down and flattened.
What about moving boxes, packing peanuts & packing foam?
We have a reuse program for moving boxesinside. If you have good reusable boxes from a moving company, ask inside the office and we'll show you where they go. Packing peanuts and bubble wrap are collected by our re-use program too. EPS packing foam goes in a separate bin. If you need moving boxes or packing materials, come on in, we can hook you up.

Danger -- Compactor
The compactor is a powerful and potentially dangerous piece of machinery. It can only be run when center staff are present. This is why you will sometimes see large piles of cardboard in the evenings and early mornings. If there is a pile, the office is closed and you must still drop off cardboard, please pack all cardboard neatly into other boxes so it takes up less space and is relatively easy for center staff to feed into the compactor when we are next open. The ideal solution is to hold your cardboard until your next trip, when the center is open.
Where does it go?
We collect in a compactor and we bale it on site. All materials are hauled to a recycling broker in Salt Lake. About half of the cardboard stays in the US for processing at the mill. The other half is placed in containers and sent to China for processing into new cardboard or paperboard boxes.
