Aluminum

Aluminum cans are collected at our main collection center and at all of our remote locations except Heber. Aluminum cans should be rinsed and crushed.
What goes in?
soda cans  beer cans cat food cans
What does not go in?
The aluminum bin is for aluminum cans only.  If a magnet sticks to it then it does not go here. These other things should not go in:
  • plastic bags
  • aluminum foil, tin foil, foil trays - Clean trays go in the metal bins.
  • scrap metal, even scrap aluminum - See us about recycling other metal and we'll try to point you in the right direction.
  • steel or tin cans - Some beverage containers (often 'health shakes') come in steel cans.  Try sticking a magnet to the can. If it sticks, it's not an aluminum can.
What not to worry about?
Don't worry about using a fancy can crusher to crush your cans.  Just give them a squeeze or simply step on them.  Crushing cans makes a big difference.

What else do you need to know?
We ask you to crush the cans because it saves a lot of energy and money.  We pay a trucking company to haul bins each time they are full.  We are in turn paid based on the weight inside the bin.  If all the cans inside a bin were crushed, the bin would weigh about four times as much and would have to be hauled a lot less often.

Where does it go?
Aluminum cans (also known as UBC or used beverage containers) are hauled to a processor in Salt Lake City. They are sorted, shredded and are made into new aluminum cans.
